EFI Reaches New Level of Integration with Embedded JDF Technology
Chicago – PRINT 09 – Sept. 12, 2009 – EFI™ (Nasdaq: EFII), a world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announced that integrated support for Job Definition Format (JDF) workflows is now standard on Fiery servers with its latest Fiery® system 9 software (also announced today). Fiery JDF integrated technology enables print operators to simplify configuration and integration between production workflows, automating data collection and reducing manual data re-entry which significantly improves production turn-around and reduces waste. Fiery JDF-integrated workflows will be on display at EFI’s booth (2500) at PRINT 09, taking place through Sept. 16th.
JMF (Job Messaging Format) and JDF ticketing capabilities are now embedded in the system 9 codebase, and utilize the intuitive Fiery Command WorkStation® user interface to manage the workflow. Legacy Fiery controllers – with close to 50 supported so far – can be upgraded to the new functionality with a free software update, opening up a new opportunity to integrate web-to-print, MIS and other workflow solutions with Fiery-driven production print engines.
“EFI has been committed to JDF since 2005, and this is the logical evolution of our strategy to ensure customers can easily benefit from the power of automated production. JDF reduces manual data re-entry and simplifies workflows to enable more jobs to be produced on the same engines, leading to greater profit potential for print providers and often reduced staffing needs,” said Ghilad Dziesietnik, CTO of EFI. “This launch of Fiery JDF also provides tighter integration with our web-to-print platform, allowing our hundreds of Digital StoreFront customers to further streamline their workflows.”
The forthcoming EFI Digital StoreFront® (DSF) version 4.5 will send JDF details directly to the Fiery server, shortening production times and eliminating errors. Direct connectivity from DSF to the Fiery server enables the auto-discovery of Fiery devices on the network, making installation of DSF or Fiery devices much simpler.

EFI Announces Wider, Faster Jetrion for Label Printing
Chicago, IL (USA), TLMI- September 9, 2009 - EFI™ (NASDAQ: EFII) today announced its next-generation digital label press, the Jetrion™ 4830 UV Inkjet System. With a wider web width and faster linear speeds, the new printer increases throughput by over two times compared to the market leading Jetrion 4000. Powered by EFI Fiery™ XF RIP, the system provides seamless workflow integration and is capable of advanced spot-color matching. Its white-ink capability enables printing on clear film, which allows label printers to respond to a more diverse customer base. It will be shown for the first time later this month at Labelexpo in Brussels (Sept 23-26, 2009). Unlike many of the competitive digital label presses which will just be demonstrated at Labelexpo, the 4830 will be immediately available.
The Jetrion 4830 prints 8.3-inches (21 cm) wide, enabling 2-up 4-inch labels. The wider print zone allows label converters to efficiently take on more print jobs. And with its new higher speed print mode of greater than 120 feet per minute (36.6 meters per minute), the new system increases productivity significantly.
"As the leading provider of UV inkjet label solutions worldwide, we have acquired a great deal of experience in label printing-we have listened to and learned from our customers," said Ken Stack, general manager of EFI Jetrion. "With the Jetrion 4830 we are adding the wider width and faster speeds the market has requested. Plus, our new white ink is the industry's first single-pass, overprintable white to offer opacity and brightness rivaling flexo, and is superior compared to other digital devices. This is what our customers have asked for in a digital label press. As the world's largest UV inkjet ink producer, we can offer aggressive, tiered ink pricing that reinforces our position versus costly click-charge models as the lowest running cost solution on the market."

EFI Announces Partnership with Masterpiece Graphix (MGX) to Supply Coated Substrates for Jetrion
Ypsilanti, MI -- July 23, 2009 -- EFI today announced that it has entered into a partnership with Masterpiece Graphix, Inc. (MGX), MGX the largest provider of customized pre coated, print enhanced substrates for digital printing. Under the terms of the agreement, MGX will coat certain substrates for use with the Jetrion 4000 Series industrial inkjet system and UV inkjet inks, eliminating the need for Jetrion users to perform this step themselves. As a result, Jetrion users will now have the option to order an even larger array of standard substrates they are already using on their flexo presses with an MGX coating that ensures that these substrates are print-receptive for UV inkjet inks.
“The Jetrion 4000 is revolutionizing digital label printing by allowing converters to print directly onto the majority of their favorite substrates without a costly primer or topcoat. This results in lower running costs and faster cycle times, a major advantage of Jetrion’s proprietary UV inkjet inks versus liquid or dry toner-based systems,” said Dr. Kenneth Stack, general manager of EFI Jetrion. “While many customers use flexo substrates that work well without priming or top coating, some have asked us for a third-party solution for the substrates that are more difficult to print on. We do offer a flexo-based coating that guarantees compatibility with any substrate, but our relationship with MGX gives our customers the added convenience of ordering print –ready rolls from a third party.” MGX treats materials with a proprietary pre-coating process assures excellent printing and ink adhesion. Not only does this guarantee the best possible on-press quality, but it also eliminates the extra coating step in the converter’s manufacturing process, thus reducing the production cycle time.
“We are excited about this partnership with EFI,” said Doug Watson, CEO and President of MGX. “MGX has extensive experience with coatings, having coated over 800 different types of materials from common paper to exotic substrates, enabling a broad selection of materials for unlimited applications. We are pleased to be bringing this expertise to bear for the benefit of EFI Jetrion 4000 users.”
